March is National Nutrition Month
National Nutrition Month® is an annual nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign, celebrated each year during the month of March, focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Our events for National Nutrition Month aim to promote healthy lifestyle habits for county residents through nutrition education.
According to Prince George’s County Health Department, “The prevalence of obesity has been increasing among adults and children in Maryland.” Poor eating habits and physical activity contribute to overweight and obesity as well as many chronic diseases, including heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, and arthritis.
The National Nutrition Month® 2021 theme is Personalize Your Plate, supporting the philosophy that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition and health. Eating from all food groups, hydrating healthfully, and learning how to read Nutrition Facts Panels are things you can do to help you Personalize Your Plate. For more information, visit eatright.org.
Throughout March come and enjoy FREE virtual, fun, interactive, and educational sessions with a certified nutritionist. Explore ways to make healthier choices for the entire family. Registration is required.
